From grey to green.
From bland to blooming.
From weary to wild.

Rewilding is about transforming your small patch of London into a thriving home for wildlife and a peaceful haven for you through simple actions.

London Let’s Get Rewild is a people-powered campaign encouraging Londoners to rewild their gardens and join Rewild My Street for free ongoing support. Rewild My Street is a design-led toolkit helping everyone bring back birdsong, butterflies and beauty to every corner of the city.

Why should London get (re)wild?

  • London loses 2.5 Hyde Parks of green space each year through changes to gardens.

  • Spending time in nature boosts residents’ health and wellbeing.

  • Rewilding can mean simple actions to fit within busy lives and small spaces.

The campaign is part of the Wild Ways research study, based at London Metropolitan University, and supported by Kusuma Trust and the Design Museum’s Future Observatory. It ran in Summer 2025 and is aiding understanding of what type of messaging is best for engaging London residents in rewilding their gardens. You can still sign up below for ongoing suport.

"Not only do we know that wildlife can flourish and thrive in cities, but it's vital that it does. From improving people's mental wellbeing to buffering city dwellers from the worst impacts of climate change, the science shows the wide-reaching benefits that come when we give nature the space to recover in urban environments. Everyone can take small steps to boost their local wildlife. It may even be as simple as spending less time mowing the lawn - a definite win-win! The more we can understand what drives people to make these changes, the sooner we can realise this vision of rewilded cities that protect people, nature and the planet."

Professor Nathalie Pettorelli, ZSL Institute of Zoology

“We are delighted to be supporting London Met’s Let’s Get Rewild campaign as part of our Design Exchange Partnership grants. This project responded to our 2025 thematic ‘More Than Human’ and is an excellent example of how design research can help our planet thrive by shifting its focus beyond human needs.”

Justin McGuirk, Director of Future Observatory, Design Museum

"Rewild my Street is a perfect example of how humans and nature can coexist in harmony, nurturing each other, and we hope that the programme will inspire lasting change that will make our city and citizens enjoy the benefit of being surrounded by nature."

Soma Pujari, Executive Trustee, Kusuma Trust

"The London, let's get rewild campaign, perfectly embodies the spirit of civic engagement that is central to London Metropolitan University's mission and the work of the London Met Lab.

“This initiative goes beyond simply encouraging biodiversity in our urban landscape; it's about actively involving Londoners in creating a more resilient and liveable city. By testing different communication strategies, we're not just promoting pro-environmental action, we're also gaining invaluable insights into how universities can effectively connect with and empower their communities to address critical challenges like climate change and nature loss. This project underscores our commitment to being an anchor institution for London, using our research and expertise to foster positive change right here in our city."
