Note the main bird nesting season is March-August inclusive, when RSPB recommend avoiding hedge and tree cutting. However, some birds start sooner, especially with climate change bringing milder weather, so always check carefully before pruning in February and September too, as it is illegal to disturb nesting birds. https://www.rspb.org.uk/helping-nature/what-you-can-do/activities/grow-a-hedge
