Let's Get Rewild: urban growingThanks for being part of London, Let's Get Rewild. This week's theme was urban growing, inspired by the Grow Urban Festival, and we encouraged people to grow food in their gardens. We found growing food in your London garden could provide healthier food for you and your garden birds, and that slugs are a vital part of the system. Growing your own fruit and veg boosts its freshness and nutrition, while limiting your exposure to harmful chemicals. Slugs and snails aid composting, improving soil quality. Encouraging birds, frogs, hedgehogs and beetles can stop them eating all your veg. Britons spend £300m a year feeding wild birds. Growing plants with berries and seeds supports a wider range of species.
